The Sound of Contamination: All Analysed Headphones on the Central European Market Found to Contain Hormone-Disrupting Chemicals

Hacker News. A landmark international study across five Central European countries has found hazardous chemicals in every single pair of headphones analysed, from premium models to cheap imports. Authors say the results reveal a systemic failure in consumer safety regulation across the electronics industry. The investigation, conducted as part of the EU-funded ToxFree LIFE for All project, analysed 180 samples of hard and soft plastic components from 81 headphone products marketed to children, teenagers, and adults in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Austria.

HP's ink-blocking firmware may violate new global sustainability rules

HP’s long-running use of firmware updates that block third-party ink and toner cartridges is drawing scrutiny again – this time under a new global sustainability standard that explicitly forbids the practice. The International Imaging Technology Council (Int’l ITC), a trade group for cartridge remanufacturers, says HP’s latest printer firmware rollout conflicts with the requirements of the General Electronics Council’s (GEC) updated Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT 2.0.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyg4wx6nxgo Why would a parent give a child an AI toy at all (or for that matter expose them to AI of any configuration)? I'm not saying that this happens all the time, but why would you take the risk? It's like putting your child on the phone with a complete stranger. #aislop #aitoys #badIdea #children #technology #ai

RE: https://flipboard.social/@TechDesk/116212811338255993 Update: Grammarly is now facing a class action over its Expert Review feature. Investigative journalist Julia Angwin is the only named plaintiff in the suit filed in New York today (Wednesday) that states she: "challenges Grammarly’s misappropriation of the names and identities of hundreds of journalists, authors, writers, and editors to earn profits for Grammarly and its owner, Superhuman.” Here's the story from @WIRED@flipboard.com. https://flip.it/S.7B5L #Technology #Tech #AI #Grammarly #USLaw
